The Minnesota Poultry Testing Laboratory offered a Poultry Testing Agent Training Course at the Holiday Inn and Willmar Conference Center.
February 4-6 - Turkey School I: Health of Turkeys.
The course is designed for turkey producers, veterinarians, flock managers and farm supervisors.
The program emphasizes health care practices for commercial turkey production.
Participants learn and obtain skills relative to necropsy, sampling and disease diagnostics, important turkey diseases, cleaning and disinfection programs, and biosecurity.

February 22-25 - The U of M offered a series of workshops on the MN Phosphorus Index (P Index) at the end of February, which were intended to educate farmers, crop consultants, and governmental officials about the P Index. The MN Phosphorus Index estimates the risk of P loss from a field and helps users identify field-specific management practices that will reduce losses. The workshops explained current knowledge about the mechanisms of phosphorus movement to lakes and streams from both manured and non-manured fields. Participants learned how to effectively use the MN P Index to estimate and reduce P loss risk. Representatives of the MDA, PCA, and NRCS talked about applications of the Index. The meetings were held at the following locations:

The University of Minnesota hosted a regional workshop on Avian Influenza (bird flu). The increased threat of AI is raising serious concerns. There's a concerted effort for education especially in preventing the outbreaks or controlling any transmission if an outbreak does occur. January, February & March - 2004 Manure and Air Quality Workshops - The University of Minnesota partnered with other Minnesota state agencies in the development of a new series of workshops that provides participants with both practical and scientific information regarding the utilization of manure in crop production and water quality issues related to manure application. Workshops were designed specifically for those involved in writing or reviewing manure management plans or integrating manure nutrients into crop production systems. The three workshop days build on each other with the first focusing on manure nitrogen, the second on phosphorus, and the third on manure management planning. Course instructors include faculty from the University of Minnesota involved in manure application research and education and expert staff from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Natural Resource Conservation Service. The workshops were held in Marshall, Alexandria, and Owatonna, MN.
