69th Minnesota
Nutrition Conference

September 16 & 17, 2008
Holiday Inn, Owatonna, MN

The 69th Minnesota Nutrition Conference was held September 16 and 17, 2008, at the Holiday Inn, Owatonna, Minnesota. Based on the excellent turnout and feedback from participants, the Conference was a huge success. The success of the event would not have been possible without the generous support of our Conference sponsors.

The 2008 Conference was the first time the event was held outside the Twin Cities metro area, the first time the entire program and planning of the Conference was managed by the Department of Animal Science staff and faculty at the U of M, and the first time we offered an evening dinner with a speaker.

The decision for these changes was the outcome and support of the planning committee, which is made up of feed industry representatives and Animal Science faculty, in an effort to increase attendance and lower the cost of registration.

An excellent program was presented — on the morning of the 16th, there were 10- to 15-minute presentations by U of M faculty reporting on research that has been or is being conducted at the University. The afternoon program was a Symposium on immunology sponsored by Prince Agri-Products who invited in four speakers on this topic. The evening dinner featured Shawn Archibeque from Colorado State University who presented his interpretation of carbon footprints.

The second day of the Conference consisted of non-ruminant and ruminant sessions. Many timely and informative topics were presented by our own Minnesota staff and many invited speakers.
