Grad Program

Graduate Studies in Animal Sciences

The University of Minnesota’s Department of Animal Science is recognized nationally and internationally for its excellent research, teaching, and extension programs in animal agriculture and animal biology. Our faculty members have received national recognition for the quality of their classroom instruction and attention to student needs and concerns.

The Department of Animal Science is part of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) on the University’s St. Paul campus. Our leading-edge research is especially well-known in three priority areas: nutrition, physiology and growth biology, and production systems. We focus on four animal species, complementing national, regional, and state efforts in dairy, swine, poultry, and beef.

Many of our alumni are prominent research scientists, extension specialists, consultants, and leaders in agricultural industries and government. Our Department is a thriving, dynamic academic unit responsive to the needs of our clientele. It is well supported, collegial, nurturing of its members, and an enjoyable, inspiring place to work and learn.

The Animal Science program at the University also benefits from an outstanding partnership with the Graduate School.
