Education

  • Post-Doc., University of Texas SW Medical School, 1973-75
  • Ph.D., Oregon State University, 1973
  • M.S., Oregon State University, 1971
  • B.S., University of California, 1969

Research Interests

Research is conducted in the area of reproductive physiology with the aim of improving reproductive efficiency. Emphasis is placed on cattle and sheep. Studies examine the intragonadal mechanisms that control ovarian follicular development and sperm production, and the feedback regulation of pituitary gonadotropin secretion. Basic, developmental and applied experiments are conducted. Projects incorporate techniques of molecular biology, protein chemistry and immunoassay.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • ANSC 3301: Systemic Physiology, 4 credits. The upper division undergraduate lecture and laboratory class covers the major systems of the body: the nervous system, muscles, respiration, blood, cardiovascular, renal, endocrinology, immunology and reproduction.

Graduate Students

Graduate students conduct M.S. and Ph.D. dissertation research in the area of reproductive endocrinology. Their research findings are usually presented at the annual meeting of the Society for the Study of Reproduction. Other conferences and symposia also are attended.

Other Activities

  • Editorial board member and reviewer of scientific journals
  • Member of the multistate regional projects W-112 "Reproduction in Domestic Ruminants", and the NCERA-190 "Improving the efficiency of sheep production"

Honor Societies and Professional Organizations Membership

  • Phi Kappa Phi
  • Sigma Xi
  • Gamma Sigma Delta
  • American Society of Animal Science
  • Society for the Study of Reproduction
  • The Endocrine Society
