Job description: This is a new position that will be responsible for leading and managing the daily operations of three swine farms. This position will be heavily involved with 1) implementing research projects at all three units, which includes interaction with faculty and their research groups on conducting research trials; 2) coordinating provision of animals for Animal Science classes; 3) teaching specific labs for various courses in Animal Science; 4) coordinating management of research trials held at other isolated swine units under Animal Science responsibility; 5) oversight of unit maintenance of the facilities; 6) fiscal management of the units; 7) supervising full time, part time and student employees. This position is responsible for maintaining a high standard of farm management and care of swine at all the units. This position may require some weekend work. Position requires the ability to drive from one location to another in a university vehicle; a valid drivers' license is required.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or closely related field and 3 years of experience to include supervising personnel, swine farm management and farm budget management. A related master’s degree and 1 year of related experience may be substituted. Excellent communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: A master's degree in Animal Science or closely related field and experience in a research oriented program of study. Experience in managing research trials. Previous teaching experience. Animal judging experience.
Salary: Minimum $46,516; commensurate with qualifications

The appointee will be required to develop a funded, innovative research program in animal health preferably with a focus on diseases of dairy cattle and infectious disease epidemiology and will be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues within and outside the Department to strengthen research work in the area of bovine mastitis epidemiology and control. Research that encompasses studies on the molecular basis of disease, host-pathogen interactions, and population level studies of disease control is preferred.
