The animal
production systems major at the University of Minnesota is designed
for students interested in managing livestock production units or
working closely with the livestock industry. Dairy, beef, swine,
sheep, and poultry herds are maintained on the St. Paul campus to
provide hands-on educational experiences and employment opportunities
for students. In addition to gaining technical expertise in animal
science, students participate in courses emphasizing economic analysis,
problem solving, and critical thinking skills. A required internship
in the livestock industry helps students apply learned principles
to real world situations and increases employment opportunities
after college.
